Preferences
These are accessible from Firefox's Tools/Add-ons menu. Right-clicking on the Moon Control entry also lets you view the About page and go to the Moon Control homepage (which is this).
- General / Text Editing
- Enable 'Paste URL as' submenu: if the string on the clipboard resembles a URL, enables the ability to paste
it as an HTML or (on non-POE sites) BBCODE link. Additionally, if the URL seems to point to an image, will allow you to paste as an HTML or BBCODE image tag.
- Enable selection submenu: allows various actions to be performed on the selected text.
- Enable Paste as/Break [quote]: enables 'Paste as [quote]' and 'Break [quote]', described below.
- General / Other
- Suppress bottom menu separator: if there are two horizontal lines after the POE-related Moon Control context menu entries (which entirely depends on the order that other extensions add context menu entries in), check this to remove one.
- General / Threat Tracking
- Disabled: turns off the threat indiciation icon.
- Homeland Security: uses the offical Government TERROR PANIC LEVEL, which is unlikely to change unless there is an election.
- Hot Posts for user ID: the lamest function yet implemented, this bases the threat level on the number of bulbs the specified user has on the Hot Posts page.
The ID defaults to mine, because I am big and important.
- POE / all sites
- Collapsible tree view: adds ruler lines and clickable hide/show children buttons to the POE News thread view.
- 3.14159265358979323846264338327950288: fix broken 'pi' links, and prevent preview from breaking them (hopefully).
- Entitlement: retitles post pages with the title of the post, rather than the generic POE News title. This makes for readable bookmarks and a navigable history.
- I crave validation: Checks [quote]...[/quote] tags are balanced before submitting a post.
- Replace insight highlights: replaces the !!! insight indicator with an image, which makes it somewhat easier to see.
- 1K phat: rejiggers POE-News and -Sports pages to be exactly 1000 pixels wide; makes long thread trees much more readable. Doesn't work on POE-Red pages, at least for now.
- Phat korners: adds erotic rounded corners to 1K phat.
- Mr Secrets: who the fuck knows anymore.
- Kill Whitey: disable white background on big versions of a listed username (user info pages, user forum).
- Forum shortcuts: Places small links to the most commonly-used forums and pages at the top of the page:
(shortcuts for POE-News)
(shortcuts for POE-Sports)
(shortcuts for POE-Red)
If the 'user ID' field for that site is filled out, then various links such as 'Profile' may be added at the end of the shortcut list; 'Settings' will always be available (except on POE-Sports).
Note that if you aren't logged in, the New Posts and Settings links won't work correctly.
- POE / Devil Robot Time Goggles - shades threaded and forum views according to relative post times.
Various inept colour schemes are available.
When using DRTG, unvisited links have a translucent overlay above them, as seen in these exciting screen shots:

(unvisited links)

(visited links)
- POE-News
- Fix 'Hot Posts' page: fixes a couple of minor issues on the Hot Posts page (bad title, broken user links).
- POE-Red
- Fix 'Search' links: the 'Search' links at the top of forum pages doen't work. This fixes that!
- User IDs - the News, Red and Sports tabs allow you to set the user ID you have on that site (for most people,
POE-News and POE-Red user IDs should be the same) - this is only currently used by the Forum Shortcuts bar at the top of the page.
Context Menu
Moon Control adds a number of bullshit options to the Firefox context menu. Here are some of them now!
POE-News / right click on username*:
- POE User Tools
- Posting History: all posts this user has ever made.
- User Forum: all the saddest and most lonely posts this user has ever made.
- POE-Search Posts: search the user's posts with the (somewhat crude) POE-News search engine. Note that it doesn't seem to search post titles.
- Accepted / Rejected Stories: show the news articles the user has submitted to the cruel whims of Chet.
- Threads started in...: shows all the posts the user has started in the given 'named' forum. (note that 'Rejected Stories' on POEN is a forum, not the list of stories the user has had rejected - see above.)
- Codehappy Archive - this submenu allows you to misuse the codehappy search engine in various sexy ways.
- Add username to - your Condition demands that you colour-code internet people according to an arcane accounting system of ancient grudges.
- Remove from list - this new medication is proving borderline effective, however, and for now you can somewhat control the impulses.
* Generally links, but there's a couple of other places (e.g. user info pages) that it can pick out usernames
POE-News / other:
- Search Forum - (right clicked on a forum link) uses the POE search engine to search the specified forum.
- Search Parent Forum - (right clicked on a post link) as above, for the forum containing the clicked post.
- Goto Parent Forum - (right clicked on a post link) opens a tab containing the forum that the post is within.
General text-editing commands:
- Paste URL as - lets you post a link on the keyboard as a HTML or BBCODE link tag (or image tag, if appropriate). If any text is selected, it will become the text of the link (or title of the image), otherwise it will default to 'link'.
- Paste [quote] - pastes whatever is in the clipboard within [quote]...[/quote] tags.
- Break [quote] - attempts to break out of (i.e. close then reopen) any current [quote] block you are within (basically just checks if there's a [quote] on the left and a [/quote] on the right) -
this is useful when you want to address the numerous errors in individual lines or paragraphs of someone's stupid post. CTRL-SHIFT-K.
Using this with some text selected is the same as doing a break at the start and end of the selected text (i.e. it will break twice)
- Selection
- to Upper/Lowercase: makes the selected text all upper or lowercase. CTRL-SHIFT-U and -L are the shortcuts, but U appears to now be in use by Firefox as a way to enter unicode characters or something.
- Bold: wraps the selected text in <strong> tags. CTRL-SHIFT-B.
- Italic: wraps the selected text in <em> tags. CTRL-SHIFT-I (if you have it installed, this is also snagged by the DOM Inspector, unfortunately).
- Strikethrough: wraps the selected text in <s> tags. CTRL-SHIFT-S.
- Quote: wraps the selected text in [quote] tags. CTRL-SHIFT-Q.
- Exchange with clipboard: swaps the selected text with whatever is in the clipboard. CTRL-SHIFT-X.
